We love Outdoor Play!
Getting children outside in the fresh air is very important to us, and to the development of children in general, so we have created a fantastic outdoor play area and Outdoor Classroom for them to enjoy. All of our children play outside at least once a day unless the weather’s really extreme – we have plenty of wet weather gear to keep them dry.
We have invested a great deal into creating an inspirational outside space for children to explore, and we’re very proud of the result. More importantly, the children love it – and they’re the real judges! We have created different areas to appeal to different children and ages. As well as our area with play equipment, we have created a musical garden and a planting area where the children grow their own plants and vegetables from scratch.
Other much-loved features include our Spinney Mud Kitchen, water feature garden, tree trunk stepping trail, sand & compost diggers and Bug Hotel! We even have our very own Spinney Castle that the children adore playing in.
Children learn in different ways and they love learning outside. So once a week we also turn our outdoor area into an Outdoor Classroom.
The best way to learn about nature is to be outside in it. So we’ve created an Outdoor Classroom, where our pre-school children have sessions every week. These sessions include lots of hands-on activities surrounding nature and the great outdoors, and the children really love them. Our emphasis is on learning something new in a fun way, whilst engaging with the surrounding environment. We focus on a different topic each week. Topics so far have included insects, planting & growing our own vegetables, making bird boxes and creating a bug hotel. It’s always fascinating watching the children’s reactions to nature in these sessions! Sometimes we branch out to an even bigger ‘outdoor classroom’ and take the children out to local park and woodland.
